Compliance with Rules, Regulations and Requirements
The 3/O is responsible for onboard compliance of statutory, international, flag or local rules and regulations and our safety management system. The 3/O shall ensure:
· Compliance with port and terminal specific regulations
· Compliance with industry best practices
Navigation
The 3/O is responsible for the safe navigation of the vessel during their watch. The 3/O shall:
· Keep a bridge watch from 0800 to 1200 and 2000 to 2400
· Maintain signaling equipment:
- Lights
- Shapes
- Flags
- Halyards
- Sound signaling equipment
· Update ALRS and ALLS
· If provided onboard care and maintenance of chronometer
- Update Chronometer Log
Vessel Operation
The 3/O is responsible for the cargo operations during his watch. The 3/O shall:
· Keep a cargo watch from 0600 to 1200 and 1800 to 2400
- Be familiar with cargo and ballast plans
- Execute and monitor the cargo and ballast plan
- Keep a record in the Port Operations Record Book
· Protect owner’s commercial interests
· Comply with Master and C/O’s standing instructions
· Lead the mooring or unmooring party as directed by the Master
Maintenance and Inspection
The 3/O is responsible for operational reliability and efficiency of life-saving and firefighting appliance.
The 3/O shall:

· Maintain inventory of life-saving and firefighting appliances
· Inspect and maintain the life-saving and firefighting appliances to ensure their readiness
· Report defects to the C/O
Safety, Security and Environmental Protection
Safety, Security and Environmental Protection
The 3/O is responsible for compliance onboard of the safety, security and environmental protection requirements. The 3/O shall:
· Assist the Master and C/O in maintaining a safe and healthy environment
- Comply with Code Of Safe Working Practices
- Promote safety awareness onboard
· Update muster lists
· Assist the C/O when vessel is in port
· Be an understudy to the 2/O
· Perform other tasks as instructed by Master or C/O
