Scorpio Vessel Technology

Modern Fleet of ‘Eco Vessels’

Our vessels are equipped with advanced features including an optimized hydrodynamic hull, electronic long-stroke main engines, and low-friction coatings, along with enhanced cargo tank coatings, a bulbous bow, enlarged propellers, and Mewis Ducts, all designed to maximize performance and operational efficiency.

Equipped with Smart Sensors

Machinery sensors that automatically adjust air, lubrication oil ratios, and fuel to optimize efficiency and reduce emissions, coupled with smart sensors enabling remote monitoring and data aggregation, allow ship and shore staff to identify inefficiencies and implement optimized solutions.

Emission Abatement Technology

Scorpio Tankers is enhancing its fleet with the installation of Fuel Optimization through Water Emission (FOWE) systems across all vessels. Additionally, nearly 90% of our fleet is now equipped with Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems, commonly known as scrubbers to reduce emissions before they are released into the atmosphere.

‘Big Data’ Analytics

High-frequency data collection enables ship and shore staff to optimize vessel performance in near real-time. Analyzing this extensive data uncovers hidden patterns, trends, and correlations, driving informed decision-making.

Remote Operating Vehicles

Remote Operating Vehicles allow us to see the condition of the hull in real-time and take corrective actions based on the results.

Optimize Energy Efficiency

As a leader in the product tanker industry, Scorpio is crucial to global energy trade and is committed to safe, timely, and responsible delivery.

We focus on enhancing vessel energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, specifically monitoring CO2e, NOx, and PM pollutants. For vessels without scrubbers, we use ultra-low sulfur diesel or low sulfur fuel oil to minimize SOx emissions, adhering to the IMO 2020 regulation of keeping sulfur content below 0.5%.

For vessels under our management, we implement strategic systems and passive measures to optimize energy consumption on managed vessels. This includes training our crew on energy efficiency and actions to reduce fuel use. Our comprehensive approach ensures we maximize eco-efficiency and minimize environmental impact.

Preventing Spills

Accidental ocean spills and discharges pose serious threats to marine ecosystems, impacting biodiversity and coastal communities.

These incidents necessitate intensive restoration efforts, carry financial penalties, and harm reputations. Following strict operational protocols, our internal auditing team ensures environmental compliance and comprehensive seafarer training to prioritize safe performance and spill preventions. Since 2024, our vessels have remained spill-free four years.

Scorpio’s commitment to marine conservation is highlighted by its ongoing participation in the Protecting Blue Whales and Blue Skies Vessel Speed Reduction (VSR) incentive program.

This initiative reflects the company’s pledge to minimize its impact on fragile maritime ecosystems by voluntarily reducing our vessel speed through whale breeding and feeding areas. In 2024, our vessel performance was recognized by environmental organizations on both the East and West coasts of the United States.

Navigating with Purpose

At the heart of our mission lies a commitment to noble ideals—seafaring, shipping, and ethical excellence. Our wake is more than a trail of water, t’s a testament to our stewardship.

Scorpio is dedicated to strengthening partnerships with organizations that share its vision. These collaborations are crucial for achieving sustainability goals and solidifying Scorpio’s role as a responsible leader in the global maritime sector.

Scorpio actively supports environmental and humanitarian organizations worldwide. Beyond these partnerships, Scorpio companies engage in local community outreach by volunteering, donating, and organizing disaster relief. Our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives include book drives, blood drives, reforestation projects, and more.

We’re proud supporters of Mercy Ships, contributing funds and logistic services to their floating hospitals. Scorpio India’s most recent projects have supported girls’ education by funding the construction of new girls’ bathrooms, funded numerous pediatric congenital heart surgeries for disadvantaged families, and through their ongoing investment in reforestation projects, have planted thousands of trees to rebuild natural habit across India.

Our diverse CSR approach reflects our commitment to caring for people and the planet, demonstrating how corporate responsibility can profoundly impact lives, fostering hope and healing for those in need.

Reducing our Carbon Footprint, NOW

In 2024, Scorpio Tankers took a significant step by equipping its entire fleet with FOWE™ fuel-saving devices, enhancing energy efficiency and reducing each vessel’s emissions.

This move supports its pledge to meet the IMO and Poseidon Principles’ target of cutting carbon intensity 40% by 2030, compared to 2008 levels. Scorpio Tankers already achieved a 30% carbon reduction, and we are hopeful the FOWE™ devices will bring the 40% goal within reach.
