Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities
  • Assist the C/O in maintaining a safe and healthy environment
  • Comply with Code Of Safe Working Practices
  • Promote safety awareness onboard
  • Ensure tool box talks are carried out prior every task
  • Comply with statutory, international, flag or local rules and regulations
  • Ensure permit to work procedures are followed for tasks on deck
  • Keep a cargo watch on deck as directed by C/O
  • Be part of mooring team
  • Perform security and anti-piracy watches as required by SSO
  • Securing and clearing anchors as directed by Master
  • Keep the windlass and winches ready for immediate use prior arrival port
  • Maintain inventory of all tools, equipment, lifting gear and stores
  • Maintain the paint store in orderly condition
  • Assist in receiving and stowing stores, spares and provision.
  • Assist in planning and execution of maintenance and operational tasks
  • Ensure balance between work and rest periods for deck crew, in consultation with C/O
  • Supervision of tasks assigned to deck ratings
  • Maintain discipline amongst deck crew
  • Training of deck ratings in the various assigned tasks
  • Assist 2/O in implementing the Garbage management plan
  • Any other duties as instructed by Master or C/O
