Scorpio awarded 2023 Tanker Owner of the Year

Scorpio is proud to announce that, for the second consecutive year, it has been honored as “Owner of the Year” at the prestigious Mercy Ships Geneva Cargo Day Gala. Held on September 19th at the iconic Bâtiment des Forces Motrices, the event brought together over 400 esteemed guests from the global shipping and trading community. Scorpio Senior Charterer, Simon Winthrop, accepted the award, recognizing the company’s commitment to supporting Mercy Ships’ life-changing mission.
The gala celebrated the outstanding success of the previous year’s Cargo Day initiative, which raised an impressive $4.2 million for Mercy Ships. In addition to Scorpio’s recognition, awards were presented to Riverlake, ST Shipping Services, Trafigura, and Oldendorff Carriers GmbH & Co. KG for their exceptional contributions.
A highlight of the evening was a live auction featuring donated ship models and a jersey signed by Premier League star Erling Haaland, which raised 168,000 CHF (about 177,000 euros). Thanks to a generous match by Mercy Ships’ partners, the total impact of these funds will be doubled to further support the organization’s vital work.
The event also included a touching tribute to the late Tim Webb, founder of Mercy Ships Cargo Day, whose vision and dedication continue to inspire the maritime community. Mr. Webb passed away in 2024 after a battle with cancer.
Scorpio extends its heartfelt thanks to all who participated and looks forward to the upcoming 2024 Cargo Day on November 6th, 2025. Let’s aim even higher this year to bring hope and healing to those in need worldwide!
